What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a powerful emotion that can manifest both emotionally, through worry and tension, and physically, causing issues like digestive discomfort or elevated blood pressure. While it's common to experience anxiety occasionally, distinguishing between occasional anxiety and an anxiety disorder is crucial. The psychiatrists at Serenity Mental Health Centers in Superior, CO are dedicated to assisting patients in discerning whether their anxiety is a temporary state or indicative of a more persistent anxiety disorder. We commit to personalized consultations with each patient, aiming to identify if their anxiety is enduring, diagnose the specific type of anxiety disorder present, and determine the most effective treatment approach. Understanding the challenges in dealing with anxiety, our team is prepared to offer the necessary support and care to help you lead a liberated life.
How Is Anxiety Treated?
Recognizing the uniqueness of every person who seeks our help, we understand that patients may grapple with various forms of anxiety, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder, among others. Aware that there's no universal remedy for anxiety, our team has fostered a secure and welcoming space where individuals can freely express their questions and concerns and explore treatment possibilities. Our aim is to devise a personalized treatment plan that aligns with each patient's specific needs and values. To achieve this, we offer a range of anxiety treatment options, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and ketamine IV therapy. Our commitment is to accompany each patient on their path to enhanced mental well-being, providing support every step of the way.
What Are the Causes and Symptoms of Anxiety?
Anxiety can develop from a blend of genetic, environmental, and mental health factors. Traumatic or major life events can act as catalysts for anxiety, complemented by genetic traits and the chemical makeup of the brain. Typical symptoms of anxiety involve ongoing worry, a state of constant restlessness, and physical issues such as an accelerated heart rate, sweating, and heightened muscle tension. People suffering from anxiety might also have trouble focusing, show signs of irritability, and experience problems with their sleep. Understanding and confronting these factors and symptoms are critical for successfully managing and treating anxiety.
Anxiety Reviews
Amazing. It's hard to describe Serenity in words, but everyone has been the most amazing, caring, thoughtful (looking for my gratitude words!) and supportive team I have ever had. My final TMS session (2nd ever, and this was a million times better than the first elsewhere) was the day I post this. I will miss being there every day, but I know that I can always reach out. The psychiatrists and support team here are the best, in my opinion. I honestly do not know where I would be right now if my friend didn't tell me about them. I'm so grateful for my friend telling me and all the awesome people in Serenity on and off the phone. I've been to many other places + people before in the country and either I hit the jackpot or found the best group to help with this journey with my friend's own experience. My friend has been with them for some years now, and his experience has helped him so much. Thank you all!! You all mean so much to me. I hope anyone reading will take the opportunity to try Serenity themselves. In my own experience of trying to get better personally, I never thought there was a place like this. Please, try. There's many places out there, but even if you have been to many you think don't fit, try here. It won't hurt and know it's a safe space. I hope it helps as it did for me. I'll see everyone soon! Truly, every day going there was the highlight of my day.
I had a wonderful experience coming to Serenity. I work in the mental health field, and have seen how hard it can be for people to access services, and I was pleasantly shocked at how smooth and quick the process was for me to get an appointment here. Big perk they take my insurnace. Katy McLaughlin was very sweet, easy to talk to, and provided me with a lot of clarity. She really listened to my concerns, points of view, and my needs, and welcomed me into her with a really great first appointment experience. 10/10
I just wanted to give my personal account of Dr. Katy McLaughlin. She was so kind to me in my time of need. If it weren’t for her, I may not be here today. After my insurance changed, I was forced to discontinue my visits. Serenity Mental Health Centers is lucky to have her. I want to wish her and her colleagues a warm thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, so much for your professionalism and kindness.
I cannot rave about Serenity Mental Health Centers enough!! Beth Martin is my provider at the Superior location. We’ve been working together a little over 4 months and I am so grateful to have met her. She’s an excellent, compassionate provider who truly cares about her patients. She’s extremely empathetic and good at what she does. Everyone at that location is wonderful from reception to medical assistants and providers. I also love the staff at the cherry creek location by my home where I do my TMS sessions. My tech Rhonda is just the sweetest woman. So kind and just delightful to see daily. Their receptionists are also equally warm and attentive. I’ve recommended Serenity to all my friends in the area. Keep up the great work!
I've been in therapy and on meds for a decade and was completely hopeless before I found Serenity. They recommended I do TMS and it changed my life!!!! I can finally say I am happy and live a "normal" life thanks to serenity. I am eternally grateful to have found them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are generalized anxiety disorder and general anxiety the same thing?
Generalized anxiety disorder and general anxiety are not the same thing. While general anxiety is a common reaction most people have during stressful or uncertain situations, generalized anxiety disorder is characterized by much more intense apprehension about everyday things. Those who have this disorder may worry for no apparent reason and don't know how to erase the worry from their minds.
What can I do if my partner has anxiety?
If your partner has anxiety, the first thing to remember is that anxiety is not something you can simply dismiss. With the appropriate support, assistance, and knowledge, however, your partner might manage to work through these tendencies. If your partner is suffering with anxiety, a few things you can do include:
- Reassure them that they will be okay
- Stay calm and patient
- Don't make them feel guilty
- Ask them how you can help them in the moment
Does anxiety run in families?
If you have a family member with generalized anxiety disorder, you may be more likely to develop anxiety yourself. Research shows that genes may play a role in anxiety; however, it's unclear how the condition is passed among family members.
